PhD Students - Kandace Creel

E-mail: creel005@umn.edu

Background
I am a third year graduate student originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I moved here from Lawrence, Kansas after graduating from the University of Kansas.

Education

B. A. 2004. University of Kansas (Psychology and Women's Studies, with a minor in Leadership Studies)

Research interests
I am primarily interested in immigration policy specifically pertaining to Mexican women who are working in the US both in the Southwest and the Midwest. My interest lies in investigating the attempts of Mexican, immigrant, women, domestic workers to mobilize for collective rights, social justice and better wages and employee benefits within the limited options of employment. I hope to explore the implications of racial assimilation for this group of people in the US and how public policy shapes this process. As a Chicana feminist, I believe it is imperative to reevaluate and continue to implement feminist mobilization based on the ideology behind identity-politics for this community and seek to understand ways to collaborate with other women of color.
