Rebecca Aylesworth, Academic Adviser

What I do: I advise undergraduate students, helping them declare the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies major, Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies minor and GLBT Studies minor. I also assist students with individually designed degree programs. I help students with choosing courses, departmental petitions, study abroad, internships and provide referrals to a variety of resources on and off campus. Additionally, I work with university staff, faculty and alumni to host programs and events throughout the school year for our undergraduate students. I also promote the department and its courses in the college, and work to increase the visibility of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Minnesota.

Background: I have an undergraduate degree with majors in English and Scandinavian Languages and Literature from the University of Minnesota. I also obtained a Master of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in Educational Psychology, with a focus on counseling and student personnel psychology. I am interested in sexual identity development, particularly in college-age students, and I also have an interest in the “first-year experience”, including the transition from high school to college.
