Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Advising Office

Academic advising involves a relationship in which an adviser (a faculty member, professional staff member, or student peer) helps a student select, plan, and complete academic goals without unnecessary delays and expense. Work closely with your adviser so that you can take required courses to meet both Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies and CLA requirements. Contact your advisers: they are resources available to you only if you take advantage of them.

Upper Division students in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) have at least two academic advisers. One is the college adviser who oversees the student's entire degree progress. Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies majors have CLA Advisers through CLA Advising, usually in the CLA Society and Culture Student Community, 122 Johnston Hall (612-624-2549). Honors degree candidates in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies have CLA advisers in the Honors Program office, 115 Johnston Hall (612-624-5522). Check out CLA's online advising service, as well.

A student's other adviser is the major department adviser. Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies majors and students considering a Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies major have a departmental adviser in the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Advising Office, 404 Ford (612-624-6809).

The Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies undergraduate adviser guides students through the process of completing the requirements for a major or minor in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. In addition to helping students plan their major and minor requirements we also provide information about internships, contests, study abroad, and awards, as well as other useful information about navigating student life at the University of Minnesota. Make regular appointments to meet with your departmental adviser and college adviser to ensure timely academic progress.
