Majors in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies - Major Clusters

Our curriculum is organized into five clusters to enable majors to concentrate on particular themes. These clusters also enable double majors or minors to complement their work in their other fields of study. Students can focus their electives around a cluster or pick and choose among possible courses.

Literature, Film and the Arts
You will find great courses in this cluster if you are interested in English, comparative literature, speech communications or film.

Classes include:

Methods of Inquiry
Courses in this cluster are ideal for students interested in philosophy, theory, and critical thinking. We focus on methods and techniques of feminist scholarship that can be used in a variety of fields.

Classes include: Civic and Community Studies
For students interested in the social and political worlds, this cluster develops your knowledge of local and global struggles and helps you become a leader in your community.

Classes include: Our Legislative Internship Program combines GWSS 4504, 4505 and an eight-week internship with a state legislator or advocacy group.

Biology, Psychology & Social Perspective
This is perfect for students interested in psychology, sociology, or biology.

Classes include:
Comparative and Global Studies
This cluster adds significantly to an International Studies or ethnic studies majors.

Classes include: LGBT Studies
Many Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies classes have significant content relevant to the field of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies. Major Requirements
(To complete a Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Major students need at least 36 credits)

Required Coursework: (27-30 credits total) IDIM and BIS MAJORS
Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies is great for incorporating into a Bachelor of Individualized Studies (BIS) or Individually Designed Interdepartment Major (IDIM).
