Legislative Internship Program

Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies opens up many opportunities, among which is the Legislative Internship Program. This program allows you to work eight hours a week with a state legislator or advocacy group while earning course credit. Learn how laws are made and what role citizens can have in the process. This is a great preparation for a career in public policy or political organizing. GWSS 4504 (Fall Semester) teaches you all about the legislative process. GWSS 4505 ( Spring Semester) guides you through your internship. These courses fulfill the CLE Citizenship and Public Ethics requirement. This course is offered during the May Term. Call (612) 624-6809.

Sexual Violence Advocacy Program

Another great opportunity is our Sexual and Domestic Violence Against Women course. In this course, you will explore the consequences of sexual violence and become familiar with campus and community resources. Students develop crisis intervention and peer education skills and become eligible to work as advocates for the University of Minnesota Program Against Sexual Violence. This course meets the Minnesota Department of Corrections Guidelines for advocacy certification. Call (612) 624-6809.

Junior/Senior Seminars

In addition to regular curriculum offerings, we offer a variety of Junior/Senior Seminars every year. These courses typically focus in special expertise of the instructor. These courses fulfill the requirement for students to complete their senior project requirement. Some recent Junior/Senior Seminars included:
